SUICIDE  NOT A SOLUTION BUT AN OPTION

Over the years we have uncounted many suicide cases in Goa especially among  youngsters .On an average in Goa , 18.45 persons per lakh committed suicide. A study had shown that suicides are taking place between the age group of 15 to 35 in Goa  and among girls the age was lower than 15 at times. It had also been observed that suicides were more in areas where there was more literacy .Poisoning was the most common way of ending one’s life.

Talking about suicide prevention is difficult. The causes are so complex  and often unknowable. There’s no way to simplify this difficult and emotionally infused topic. But just because it’s hard to talk about, do we ignore the fear? Are they unfounded?

There is a need to help youngsters to overcome from such situations. Government of Goa had implemented Counseling center to prevent youngsters from  committing  such atrocities  must be implemented not only in higher secondary schools but also in high schools as well.

Connectedness is a common thread that weaves together  many of the influences of suicidal behavior and has direct relevance for prevention. It comes in lots of shapes and sizes; it can be from our own homes as well. If ‘Family Connectedness’ could play a role in helping teenagers through the emotional turmoil of adolescence, then family connectedness is what they need to get.

Family needs to play an important role in guiding them on the right path and shaping their lives for a brighter future.
